May Beach Walks With Naturalists


If you love walking along the beach, and want to learn more about things you see, why not join one of three different beach walks with amazing naturalist/guides offered mid-May by Nature Salt Spring?

May 14 – 11:00 am – 1pm – Nature Walk 1: Geology On A Seashore For Families with Dr. Steven Earle. This is a fun exploration of a beach in the Vesuvius Area focused on Families. Dr. Earle will take us along a local rocky stretch of beach to look for amazing rocks and formations. Kids and parents alike will discover clues to the past – maybe even fossils! May 15 – 10:30 am to 12:30 – Nature Walk 2: Shore Geology for All: This is a special geologist-led beach walk in the Beddis region. You will learn about the geological processes that shape the shoreline and the beach from geologist and amazing naturalist/educator, Dr. Steven Earle. The stories behind by the shapes, markings and composition of the rocks and beach sediments will inspire you to look at all beaches with new eyes. Limited spaces available.

May 16 – 10:30am – 12:30 (optional to 1:30pm) – Nature Walk 3 – Shoreline Biodiversity: Up Close and Personal. Led by local marine naturalist, David Denning, this beach session will reveal the amazing biodiversity of the intertidal Ganges Harbour area. We will explore a variety of different habitats and you will be amazed at the organisms we find and how they manage to live there. Limited spaces available. (This beach walk is co-sponsored by Wonders of the Salish Sea and Transition Salt Spring).
