Family Stream Explorations
Sunday, April 13, 10 am - Noon
Join us on April 13th at Duck Creek Park to explore this exciting stream. It’s spectacular right now with all the rain we’ve been having!
Using our new Freshwater Toolkit from NatureKids BC we’ll do the science necessary to find out if it’s a healthy creek. We’ll measure temperature, flow rate and turbidity. Also, we’ll determine whether there are good hiding places for creatures and use our special microscope to look closely at the critters we find in the water and on the banks. Lots of different organisms generally means a healthy stream, and we’ll learn which ones can only live in unpolluted water.
This is our second stream study, and we had a great time at the first one. As a bonus, Barred Owls are frequently seen here, even in the daytime! And we’re likely to see many wonderful signs of spring in the park. Wear your gum boots or prepare to get a little wet!
When: The morning of April 13, from 10 am – 12 noon
Where: Duck Creek Park. Meet at the entrance on Sunset Drive where there’s room for parking
What to wear: Dress for the weather — rain or shine we’ll go out. Boots are super important!
