The Hidden Forest Revealed!

A Nature Walk with Jeff Shatford

Join forest ecologist, Jeff Shatford, for a 2-hour guided forest walk exploring the four ages of a tree – from seedling, to sapling, to young tree, to old growth. Discover how trees grow, adapt, and shape their environment at each stage. Along the way, we'll observe the forest’s hidden connections, from wildlife interactions, to mysterious partnerships, to soil health, and more. Jeff will provide insights into the natural recovery process and techniques for re-wilding your forested property with native plants.

Jeff Shatford is a plant ecologist engaged in ecosystem management and conservation. A former ecologist with Parks Canada, he now works with the Ministry of Water, Lands, and Resource Stewardship where he conducts research and monitoring to understand forest succession following wildfire and forest harvesting and how this succession impacts wildlife habitat values. He specializes in habitat protection for species at risk throughout British Columbia.

Saturday, May 10 – 10 am to Noon. Group size is limited to 16. Registration (here) is required.
