Now back for one night by popular demand!
This year's second most popular film at the SS Film Festival – SALMON SECRETS – looks at the impacts of salmon farming through the eyes of those fighting to protect wild salmon from extinction.
Featuring First Nations members Skookum John (Keltsmaht First Nation) and Joe Martin (Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation), and traditional Chief Ernest Alfred ('Na̱mg̱is First Nation), as well as scientist Alexandra Morton.
The federal government has promised to remove fish farms from BC waters by 2025, but now industry is pushing back with false solutions. Join Clayoquot Action’s fish farm watchdog program as a team of underwater cinematographers investigates an “experimental” fish farm near Tofino. What they find surprises them, and spells potential disaster for wild salmon. Featuring marine biologist and bestselling author Alexandra Morton, and traditional 'Na̱mg̱is Chief Ernest Alfred, who document the successful resurgence of salmon after the removal of fish farms from the Broughton Area and Discovery Islands.
Clayoquot Action's Dan Lewis and Bonny Glambeck will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on how you can help protect wild salmon and the BC communities and ecosystems they feed and support.
Here's a great chance to view this film on Thursday, June 6 at the Lions Hall.
