Nature Salt Spring is excited to announce our first ‘Club’ Evening. At the beginning and end of the evening, we’ll have a chance to catch up with friends, meet new Nature enthusiasts, and to chat with Nature Salt Spring’s Steering committee and let us know what you’d like to see in the next few months. We’ll have tea, coffee and goodies. This event is open to all Nature Salt Spring Members and Guests. If you know any people who might like to join Nature Salt Spring please bring them along.
IBAs and the Roberts Bank Issue: We have a very exciting program, including a 3-minute film about the Roberts Bank/Boundary Bay mudflats that are a critical stop-over feeding point on the Pacific Coast shorebird fly-way. And we have two incredible guests to speak to this issue:
Jason Puddifoot is the principal photographer for the film. Jason has spent hundreds of hours patiently observing and documenting bird feeding behaviour on the mud flats of Roberts Bank area. His images and footage are revealing and stunning! You’ll have a chance to find out how he does it!
Liam Ragan is Coordinator for Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas in BC for BCNature. His enthusiasm, expertise, and wonderful presentation skills will provide a concise and colorful introduction to Important Bird (Biodiversity) Areas in BC.
Mud Organism Display: What are these shorebirds eating? We hope to include a station where you can get live microscopic views of the mud surface organisms that feed these tens of thousands of birds.
Table for Christmas Bird Count: Salt Spring Island’s Christmas Bird Count will take place on Sunday, December 18. We’ll have an information and sign-up table set up for you to find out more about this year’s Christmas Bird Count. Peter McAllister and Kathleen Maser, Coordinators of Salt Spring’s Account will introduce this year’s Count, answer questions, sign you up, and help you connect up with counters in your area.
