Early Morning Birding at Xwaaqw’um

Early Morning Birding at Xwaaqw’um
Every Monday in October, 8:00 a.m.

All members of Nature Salt Spring are welcome to join our group of bird enthusiasts. No expertise needed! Xwaaqw’um offers a wonderful mix of fields, forest, marsh, and shoreline habitats.

WHEN: Mondays in October, 8:00 a.m. (May continue into November).

LOCATION: Burgoyne Bay/Xwaaqw’um. Meet by the barns halfway along the road into the bay. We usually head down the straight track that bisects the fields.

BRING:

  • Footwear for wet grasses and muddy pathways.

  • An extra warm layer has paid off many times!

  • Binoculars are essential. (We usually have one or two extra that may be borrowed for the morning).

WHAT IF IT RAINS?
Each birder makes their own decision as to whether to brave the elements or go back to bed. It is difficult to spot birds when rain is falling on your binoculars! Also, many birds are less active in cold and rainy weather. Most of us will choose to wait until the following Monday, hoping for better conditions.
