The Great Backyard Bird Count – Family Event, Friday, February 17, 10:00 – 11:30 am

Xwaaqw’um, Burgoyne Provincial Park: The outdoor classroom with the displays of indigenous culture, located near the upper parking lot

Salt Spring Families please join Kathleen Maser and Jean Wilkinson for a birding session on how to count birds. We will practice the bird count protocol along the paths and in the meadows of beautiful Xwaaqw’um, Burgoyne Provincial Park. We’ll be on the look-out for the usual common birds but will especially keep an eye out for the uncommon ones, lurking in the wings. Winding our way down to the bay, perhaps we’ll be gifted with spotting some exciting waterbirds!

To attend, please contact Kathleen at KHMaser@shaw.ca.

The Cornell Labs coordinated Great Backyard Bird Count runs Feb. 17-21. Anyone can participate in this global event on their own! Spend time in your favorite places watching birds – then tell us about them! In as little as 15 minutes notice the birds around you. Identify them, count them, and submit them to help scientists better understand and protect birds around the world. Details can be found here: https://www.birdcount.org/
